Yellow

At Maricopa County Hospital in Arizona:
Two lives were saved from kidney transplants on September 14th and four lives were saved from heart, kidney and liver transplants on September 16th.

I don’t know how you get on the heart transplant list but after the number of times I have been told I don’t have one I think I should be first to get the next one available.

So wind sucks.

Max and I were pretty happy that we had finally entered flat land when we had to face our first headwind. My lips have been disgustingly chapped that past few days and the wind hasn’t helped it at all. I end up dousing my lips with Aquafor every 15 minutes. While it provides some temporary relief it is not the end all be all solution. Lemme esplain you why. When you drive a car for a long period of time you will notice you have bugs all over your windshield. When you ride a bike for an extended period of time your face is the equivalent of a windshield. Now bugs don’t necessarily splatter over your face like they would in a car (we can’t ride that fast), but when you have a thick film of Aquafor on your lips its like fly paper. Best part of my day is riding for a bit then stopping to lick my fly-paper-like lips clean. PROTEIN!

Yesterday (posted late because I don’t have cell phone service at the bottom of Palo Duro Canyon), Max and I spent with our friend Tex’s grandparents in Amarillo. We call him Tex because he is from Texas however, we had to call him by his actual name in front of his grandparents which felt awkward. They took us to the local bike shop so I could have my bicycle operated on and also took us to breakfast. Both were great people and Mrs. Sauer knows her sports well, particularly baseball and football (surprising to have a Texan be such a football fan). They helped us map our route through Texas as well. Since we ended up in the state early, we figured we could take some time to explore a little bit more as we head East. Hence us being in the bottom of a canyon right now. Another big thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Sauer for having us as guests and a thanks to Tex for sharing his family with us. His grandparents said it was the first time they got to meet some of his college friends so I hope we charmed the hell out of them.

I figured since I was able to teach you all so much about New Mexican culture I could throw in some bits and pieces of what I have learned during my time here in Texas. Texans love their water towers. I know nothing about water towers or what their function is so I may be completely wrong saying this but I think they just like writing their city’s name on a giant spherical object. I have a feeling I won’t go by any town in Texas without a water tower.

You won’t learn anything about Texas from this but I figured I would share it with you anyway. One of the first signs I saw in Texas as we were riding around was the yellow SHARE THE ROAD signs. However rather than having a bicycle on it, there was a motorcycle. If they had to warn drivers about motorcycles I figured bicyclist were in worse shape. So ever since I have seen that I have this fear that every Texan that drives by wants to run me over so they can take me to a taxidermist and mount me on their wall like a trophy. This is completely unfounded considering everyone we have met here has been awesome as well as polite (evident by the amount of ma’ams and sirs that have been witnessed) but I can’t explain why my mind works the way it does.

Today we are on our way to Caprock Canyon then continuing Northeast into Oklahoma. It might be a couple of days before we shower again. We are slowly reverting back to animalistic characteristics so look forward to hearing about that.

One last thing. Max and I have heard from numerous people about how organ donation has changed their lives in one form or another. It has been great to hear about this from so many and we would enjoy continuing to hear more. If you have a story and wouldn’t mind sharing it, please post it to our Facebook wall so we can read it and so others can appreciate it as well. Thanks!

P.S. We just woke up and Beverly, the park ranger, decided to pick us up from the bottom of the canyon so we wouldn’t have to hike back up the four miles out of the canyon with our bikes and gear. Not only this, but she brought us breakfast as well. So all that talk about Texans being crazy people who want to run me over…I take that back. They’re awesome.

No 3G means no pictures…We will try and add some to this post later today.

Undeniably believe that which you said. Your favorite
justification appeared to be on the net the simplest
thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while people
consider worries that they plainly do not know about.
You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as
defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people could take
a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
